.
Through the poem a phrase
weaves like a refrain:
draft after draft
after draft
after
…
In the poem’s echo chamber
the phrase repeats itself
until it becomes
the very thing
it describes.
Repetition imbues the refrain
with self-referential promise
performing the writing
process of the poem
draft after
draft.
A film is made of the poem
with a question in mind:
how can this creation
visually perform
a draft?
Many shots are filmed
for an initial script
that ends up
a failed
draft.
But along with failure comes
a strange form of success
that cannot be found
in the finest shots
but only among
discarded
takes.
When the poet forgets her lines
the scene must recommence
over and over repeating
more or less the same:
take after take
draft after
draft.
